Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that features many conveniences aside from the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
