Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino wagering is against the law. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel complex that features a number of conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
