Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous luxuries on top of the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
